Sweep

2011 - 2025

Sweep is remembered through a bespoke Chester Drawers picture frame which can be seen in our gallery. His spirit living on not just in a photograph but in the memories of those who loved him. A playful, loving companion, he will always be a shadow in his mum’s heart and a reminder of the bond we share with our pets.

In the words of his mum ❤️

Sweep came into my life when he was just twelve weeks old. From the very first day, it was clear he wasn’t just a cat – he was my baby.

If I was busy, he’d climb up my leg until I picked him up. Sweep always had to be in my arms, on my knee, or even perched on my shoulder. He was the most loving boy.

The moment I walked into a room, he’d flop onto the floor for a belly rub. But anyone else did so at their own risk. Sweep’s “murder button” could be activated at any moment – and then came the bunny kicks and those playful bites.

One of the funniest memories I have is from when he was six months old. He loved snoozing in the sun, stretched out on the living room windowsill. One day, he rolled over and fell right off – landing perfectly in his cat basket, stretching out a paw, and staying sound asleep.

He loved sleeping on top of the boiler in winter when the heating was on.

And Sweep… oh, he showed me so much love. When he groomed himself, he had to groom me too. My face was always left so smooth – though his tongue felt like wet sandpaper!

He adored kisses, lifting his face up to mine for one. Sweep was my shadow for fourteen wonderful years, and we adored each other.

His favourite treats were prawns and tuna. He always knew if I’d been shopping, I’d bring him something back. He’d check every single bag until he found the prawns. Then he’d sit at his bowl, waiting.

We couldn’t even say the words “prawns” or “tuna” – because he knew them. Instead, we’d say “pink things” or “tinned fish.”

Sweep loved being brushed, stretching out, rolling over, and purring – very loudly.

Losing Sweep has left a hole in my heart that will never heal. But I will always remember the love and the trust he showed me every single day... until we are together again.
